Let's Move! Child Care Initiative
Children are at risk of childhood obesity early in life. According to the White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity, over half of obese children become overweight by the age of two, and approximately one in five children are overweight or obese by their sixth birthday.
As a child's body and brain develops, they can form unhealthy food preferences and habits that are hard to break. That's why First Lady Michelle Obama is launching the Let's Move! Child Care Initiative - a nationwide call-to-action that empowers child care providers, like you, to make positive health changes in children, early on, that could last a lifetime.
Sign up now for the Let's Move! Child Care Initiative; you'll receive information, updates, and have access to many useful resources all for FREE! As an added incentive, the first 100 programs to sign up will receive a free movement CD from the Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas and the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) grant. Mark your Calendars! We will be offering back-to-back training for Beyond Cribs & Rattles (1/28, 2/11, 2/25/2012) and Beyond Centers and Circle Time (3/10, 3/24, 4/7/2012). This is an excellent opportunity for centers to have their entire staff trained, allowing for consistency in implementation of this quality curriculum framework in your program. Infant Toddler Library & Resource Room
Don't forget to visit the Infant Toddler Library and Resource Room. We have over 1,500 unique toys, books, and CDs for infants, toddlers and twos available for check-out to School Readiness Providers. Items may be kept for up to two months at a time. In addition, we have a fabulous resource room with die-cut machines, laminator, and book binder to assist you in making learning aids for your classroom. Teachers that work in a School Readiness program receive three free yards of laminating each month!
